World Nuclear Association, the international organisation representing the global nuclear industry, is seeking to recruit a Programme Lead who will be responsible for delivering the Association’s activities in the key areas related to the backend of the nuclear fuel cycle: decommissioning of nuclear facilities, recycling & reuse of radioactive materials, radioactive waste management, management of used nuclear fuel, reprocessing, interim storage, deep geological repositories, remediation of sites and final disposal. As subject matter expert, this role is the Association’s focal point on the nuclear fuel cycle backend activities and has responsibility for the delivery of the Association's work in the area, in alignment with the strategic objectives. In addition to ensuring the Association remains a relevant and authoritative source of information and opinion, and is recognised as a key international expert, the role is also responsible for projecting this status to external stakeholders.
- Conduct research and analysis to provide insights on nuclear fuel cycle backend issues, and maintain an up-to-date awareness of the international developments in this field; propose activities to support delivery of the Association’s strategy, and share knowledge and best practices, in this area
- Act as Staff Director for the Decommissioning Working Group; provide direction and technical support, and project manage the delivery of the Group’s programme of work
- Act as Staff Director for the Used Fuel Working Group; provide direction and technical support, and project manage the delivery of the Group’s programme of work
- Develop a programme of work focused on the related areas and provide project management for effective delivery of work activities
- Represent World Nuclear Association in relevant external forums and events; contribute to the nuclear debate and provide thought leadership on topics related to the backend of the nuclear fuel cycle.
- Support the design & development of programmes for the Association’s events
- Write and disseminate industry position papers, policy briefs and reports, thought pieces and blogs.
- Provide input and/or support to other Association activities and events as required and as relevant.
- Masters degree or Bachelors degree in a relevant field
- Demonstrable experience in areas relevant to nuclear decommissioning, radioactive waste management, used fuel management, interim storage, reprocessing, and final disposal
- Minimum 5 years’ relevant experience gained within the nuclear sector
- Knowledge of the nuclear power industry and nuclear fuel cycle, and world energy trends
- PC literate & fully conversant with MS Office
- Proven research & analytical skills
- Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to draft and convey complex information fluently and accurately
- Credibility & integrity to command the respect of a broad range of stakeholders
- Self-motivated and organised with the ability to work on your own initiative
- Capable of managing various projects and competing priorities and timelines
- Experience of working in an international environment
- Knowledge of at least one other language would be advantageous
