Looks good where they are now. Why is Atlantis spelled backwards, was the picture flipped? Is the graffiti flipped too? What do you think it said below that was crossed out? Graffiti says “No Allah”? Raquel Baranow (talk) 17:51, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I see in this file, looks like “yok” was crossed out and picture flipped. Raquel Baranow (talk) 17:57, 31 March 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. This message is being sent to inform you that there is currently a discussion at Commons:Administrators noticeboard#Holocaust denial and antisemitism from User:Raquel Baranow. This is in relation to an issue with which you may have been involved.

Freedom4U (talk) 04:59, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Funny how someone at the AN admits to canvassing at the Discord server and no one thinks it’s wrong. (Wonder what they said there.) Their whole comment is absurd. Very sad, I acted in good faith, everything I posted had reliable sources. I’m guilty of a thoughtcrime?! Raquel Baranow (talk) 14:49, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I do not use Discord. I tended to give you a chance but now I do not think that you are willing to understand the problem. GPSLeo (talk) 15:59, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I think the problem was a featured, nominated picture of the year I liked because it illustrates a major shift in immigration policy in the United States. Many of the files I uploaded and also, posted on my user-page were immigration related. If there was a problem with one of the pictures on my user-page why couldn’t we have discussed that instead someone deleted my entire user-page that I worked so hard on! Good thing it was saved on internet archive. Raquel Baranow (talk) 16:12, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Perceived problem also being alleged Holocaust denial, which also could have been discussed. There is an article on Wikipedia about Holocaust denial and NONAZIS is an essay, not a policy. Everything I posted about the Holocaust was referenced with reliable sources. Raquel Baranow (talk) 16:17, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Also, I’m sorry I used the wrong diff above, regarding the Discord Server, I hope you saw my error, here’s the right one. Raquel Baranow (talk) 17:19, 18 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Unblock request declined

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without discussion.

Request reason: "This is very sad, I contributed a lot of good things to Wikimedia as well as Wikipedia. My block on Wikipedia was a misunderstanding, I acted in good faith but probably shouldn’t have posted a poem (my opinion) on Jimbo’s Talk page. I often say things that others misinterpret. I thought Wikipedia was the “encyclopedia that anyone can edit” anyone except people who think like me! Raquel Baranow (talk) 18:23, 15 July 2023 (UTC)"[reply]
Decline reason: "Users can be unblocked, if they understood problems leading to their block and give a believable promise not to continue. Neither can be seen here. You were blocked in Commons not for posting on Jimbo's talkpage, but for intimidation/harassment on your own Commons userpage. Also I do not see here promise not to continue or become a better user, but a regret, that people who think like you will be blocked and not everybody can write everything in Commons and other Wikimedia projects. We try to make Commons a safe place, free from intimidation and harassment. People like you, who think, that intimidating and harassing others is acceptable, are not welcomed here. And Jews are no way an exception. Intimidating and harassing Arabs, Americans and other nations is here prohibited as well. Bytheway, I did not see words "Jewish race" in your edits and I thank you for that. Taivo (talk) 16:27, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Everything on my user-page (since deleted by an administrator) was taken from Wikimedia/ Wikipedia, no intent to harass or intimidate, I acted in good faith. I’m sorry if anyone was offended. Several other administrators I’ve interacted with saw my user-page and did not see anything objectionable in it. I’m a communist who believes in abolishing money, I’m not a Nazi; Nazis would throw me into a concentration camp for being a Communist, hermit, queer, born breech, etc. Peace, love and saving the world is my goal. You wrote about a "Jewish race". How could this be understood in a not racist and antisemitic way? --GPSLeo (talk) 18:59, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Please provide a dif. I never thought of Jews as a race but as a religion. Raquel Baranow (talk) 20:33, 15 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
I refer to the sentence "Instead of returning to the holy land to build up Jerusalem and to restore the glories of their race, the chosen people are coming to the metropolis of the new world." Yes it is a citation but without any context and explanation. I will ask for more opinions on the unblock request, but I think the User page should definitely stay deleted. GPSLeo (talk) 19:10, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It’s a citation from Judge Magazine, 1892 visible (in very small print) in the picture. This file was nominated for picture of the year and was featured a few times. It’s very important history of immigration to the United States, Jewish immigration was terminated due to the Immigration Act of 1924, which is also cited in my caption. Immigration is the leading cause of population growth in the United States, US population doubled in my lifetime. All these facts were cited in my user-page. Nearly all the pictures on my user page are my uploads. Raquel Baranow (talk) 21:09, 16 July 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Blocking administrator had no diff to block me

[edit]
Unblock request declined

This blocked user asked to be unblocked, but one or more administrators has reviewed and declined this request. Do not remove this unblock review while you are blocked. Other administrators can also review this block, but should not override the decision without discussion.

Request reason: "@GPSLeo (the blocking administrator) was asked for a diff where I “intimidated/harassed” someone and said he couldn’t find any and was going to unblock me, but he then pointed to something I subsequently wrote out of frustration, which I am now sorry for. He thought I was racist when actuality I was quoting the caption of the file. (See my talk page, above.) I also realize a few files that I posted on my user-page might trigger someone, I’ll use better judgment. Please unblock me. Raquel Baranow (talk) 21:42, 31 July 2023 (UTC) Raquel Baranow (talk) 21:42, 31 July 2023 (UTC)"[reply]
Decline reason: "The block rationale of "Intimidation/harassment" is a pre-defined boilerplate option. Although Holocaust denial is effectively synonymous with anti-Semitism and thus indeed intimidating and harassing, that rationale is, in spirit, an invocation of "behaviour that has the potential to damage Commons or disrupt its collegial atmosphere". We must address, then, whether this is behaviour in which you engaged and, if so, whether the issue is now understood and whether there is a credible commitment to discontinue.
  • "GPSLeo [...] was asked for a diff where I 'intimidated/harassed' someone and said he couldn’t find any and was going to unblock me, but he then pointed to something I subsequently wrote out of frustration, which I am now sorry for" is disingenuous: a) "he couldn’t find any" (underline added) is immediately contradicted by "he then pointed to something I subsequently wrote out of frustration" and b) "he couldn’t find any" is, of course, not what GPSLeo said. To the contrary, he said "It was the combination of quotes and files on the user page with over 200 edits." (underline added)
  • Holocaust denial is so reviled and held in such contempt that its adherents commonly resort to tactics such as innuendo, insinuation, allusion, and engagement with complementary topics to construct an artifice of plausible deniably. Your user page contained the following, which require consideration in the aggregate ("It was the combination of quotes and files on the user page"):
  1. An anti-Semitic image--The response of "It’s a citation from Judge Magazine, 1892 visible (in very small print) in the picture. This file was nominated for picture of the year and was featured a few times. It’s very important history of immigration to the United States" is tone-deaf. The concern is not its source or historical merit, but that you selected it for inclusion (and indeed its transcription to rectify the "very small print") on your userpage in the first place. By way of an extreme analogy, inclusion of this image on a userpage could be explained in much the same way--its very important history--but that rather ignores the point: what it conveys about the user selecting it.
  2. Relatedly, addition of that image, and its enlargement, was within minutes followed by addition of "Users interested in skepticism". Quite the remarkable coincidence, that timing.
  3. A multi-image, with extensive annotation, of "Technique and operation of the Zyklon B gas chambers". Like above, that this content was chosen for a userpage is curious, and even more so in the context of simultaneously appearing with the image referenced above. Quite disparate topic interests, immigration to the United States and industrialised murder.
  4. The "poem", the referenced "something I subsequently wrote out of frustration," is so vapid and inane as not to warrant analysis. Its inclusion of, for example, "Why are there Laws against Holocaust denial, what are they afraid of?" is yet more obvious context for aggregate consideration.
  5. On your Commons userpage, you placed a link to your en.wiki userpage. On your en.wiki userpage, you placed a link (the first edit thereto) to your 666isMONEY website, which contains (or contained) your Holocaust denial essay that featured prominently in your en.wiki banning. This is incorporation to the Commons by reference.
  • Certain of these items, which are only examples, may be innocuous alone (artifice of plausible deniably), but, in the referenced aggregate, paint an obvious picture and would be expected to disrupt a collegial atmosphere. While I do not particularly care for the UCoC, it also provides "Behaviour can be considered harassment if it is beyond what a reasonable person would be expected to tolerate in a global, intercultural environment."
Notwithstanding that the majority of your contributions here have been in service of the same self-interest and fringe soapboxing for which your were previous blocked on en.wiki, it is difficult to imagine the belief that the totality of the contributions here are not disruptive to a collegial atmosphere or beyond what a reasonable person would tolerate. (The answer to "Why are there Laws against Holocaust denial"--which is not to be conflated with ought there to be such laws--might assist you.) Accordingly, I find the block is warranted for the reason provided and is indeed reasonably expected to prevent disruption. As something of a test, the AN thread that precipitated this block: 1) lead to your block (GPSLeo); 2) had a call for a ban (LilianaUwU); 3) block endorsements (Taivo (via unblock decline), GreenMeansGo, and Jmabel); and 4) no support for an unblock. Blocked for Holocaust skepticism, thoughtcrime

[edit]
Amazon banned the sale of these Holocaust denial books
Draft for my appeal and to set the record (and my reputation) straight

Please see ja.wkipedia’s Holocaust denial article, probably written by a skeptic, and compare it to en.wikipedia’s ad hominem, straw man Holocaust denial article.

In regards Point 1, above: User:Infrogmation of New Orleans and I don’t think the image is antisemitic (see talk page discussion), it depicts immigration; which is a category I have added many files to on Commons and later led to the Immigration Act of 1924, which ended Jewish immigration from Russia, which was mentioned on my now deleted User-page.

Point 4: Sorry you think my genius-level, slippery slope, prescient (anti-Zionism = New antisemitism) poem “is so vapid and inane as not to warrant analysis”.

The poem was discussed, here, User:Jmabel said, “I have no problem with you posting this as text on your user page (which also has the advantage of making this searchable)”. (My poem was in response to a request for comment on Jimmy Wales’ Talk page.)

The “something I subsequently wrote out of frustration” was about “canvassing” on the Discord server, which I am now sorry for. The Discord discussion turned out to be a sincere, question by the person who complained at the Administrator’s Noticeboard, about what to do about the poem I wrote.

Feeling “sorry” because I know the etymology of the word “devil” means to falsely accuse, slander.

Point 5: The link to my website (online since August 2003) on my Wikipedia User-page was from January 2006, when Wikipedia was like the Wild West, pretty much anything goes, fun and editors were very tolerant, nice.

The Japanese WP article on Holocaust denial is better than the Holocaust skeptic article I wrote in my website.

My first major WP edit was, at the time, Original Research (by me) — now incorporated into the WP article, Mark (money) of the Beast, 666.

@Cryptic-waveform: no objection to moving; looking at the cat’s history, looks like when I sorted pics at Category:US Capitol (or maybe it was Category:Exterior of the United States Capitol), I didn’t realize there already was a Capitol Christmas tree cat. However, all the pics (except one) in the cat I created show the exterior of the Capitol (and is linked to Category:Exterior of the United States Capitol), whereas the proposed merge cat is more general Raquel Baranow (talk) 20:30, 22 December 2023 (UTC)[reply]

File talk:Global primary energy consumption by source.png

[edit]

@Prototyperspective: the year for the above-named png is 2019 (it’s in the source url), the small print in the png says data comes from 2020; it doesn’t look like Our World in Data uses this graph anymore, searching the OWD website for the graph shows a new presentation. I really like this presentation better especially the small print, “(In 2000 it was 86.1%)”. Maybe OWD realizes the small print makes the energy transition look hopeless?
