New website www.chernobyltwentyfive.org launched

The new website www.chernobyltwentyfive.org which provides comprehensive information about the international efforts to transform Chernobyl into an environmentally safe site has been launched.

The website provides an overview of the activities in Chernobyl since the 1986 accident and an outlook on works that remain to be done. It demonstrates the work of the Government of Ukraine and the international donor community in the 25 years since the accident.

EBRD and Ukraine sign Chernobyl Grant Agreement.

Bank contributes €135 million to international support effort . The EBRD, the Government of Ukraine and the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant have signed a grant agreement under which the Bank will rovide €135 million from its own resources to the international efforts to transform the plant into a safe and secure site. Almost 23 years ago Chernobyl was the scene of the worst nuclear accident in history, when reactor 4 exploded in the early hours of 26 April 1986.

The EBRD acts as administrator of and a contributor to the Chernobyl Shelter Fund, which was established in December 1997 by the G7 and other contributing countries to help Ukraine transform the existing Chernobyl Shelter into a safe and environmentally stable system under the Chernobyl Shelter Implementation Plan (SIP).
