Is there any agreement on which categories should be placed here? This honestly feel very random. Like why are Femboy, Incest, Incel and Skoliosexuality even located here?
- One of the files in the category is directly related to zoophilia. Considering this is a subcategory of both Gender identity, Sexual orientation and LGBT i'm not really a fan of what this is implying. Trade (talk) 01:30, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Another file, a symbol that explicitly represents pedophilia is also located in the category--Trade (talk) 01:49, 9 June 2024 (UTC)

- Delete Thanks for the ping. The best option here is to just delete it per my comment on the Village Pump. Although I can understand why it was created, but categories like this are just to arbitrary. --Adamant1 (talk) 02:36, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Comment This category is for sexual and gender identities (not necessarily LGBT+) that are of disputed legitimacy. For example most people consider pedophilia to be a mental illness but some pedophiles consider it a legitimate sexual orientation; on a less controversial basis many people consider sapiosexuality to be pretentious and exclusionary and therefore not a true sexual orientation; and in another direction entirely incels view themselves as having an unwanted sexual stigma that forms part of their identity, while the general public views them as merely a bunch of self-hating misogynists that can’t get laid. If you want to delete this, fine, but I hope I cleared up the reasoning behind the category and why it’s not “random” or unfortunately implicated. Perhaps “fringe/disputed sexual and gender identities” would be a better category? Dronebogus (talk) 12:05, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete "Controversial" sounds like a not neutral description to me --PantheraLeo1359531 😺 (talk) 14:06, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Delete Several subcategories don't belong there and the Category:Harmful sexual identities doesn't belong into Category:LGBT-related controversies. Maybe there is be something missing in the latter cat after deletion, I don't know but the category as is is not appropriate. --Prototyperspective (talk) 15:09, 9 June 2024 (UTC)
- Opinion This is indeed arbitrary, one is just fetish-y, and some others have nothing to do with identity. And they are all categorized as gender identities when most of them are not genders, and femboy is treated as a sexual orientation too. Selective merge with sexual identity, sexual orientation, gender, gender expression, or gender identity, depending on the context, and cat:sexual controversies for superstraight and cat:taboos for incest. I also think fictosexuality isn't supposed to be controversial. Queer heterosexuality has a controversial history according to their article in Wikipedia.
- Delete How controversial a topic is varies over time and perspective and is extremely difficult to scientifically measure. Thus it is almost impossible to be objective and makes a very bad basis for sub-categorization of a topic. It is also certainly not a good realm for Commons to be in the business of defining what is or is not controversial within any topic, and certainly within the topic of sexuality.
